Kidnapping Scaring Foreign Investors From Nigeria —NGE

The Nigerian Guild of Editors, NGE, has expressed concern over the upsurge in kidnapping across Nigeria, which has become a national menace that is negatively impacting on the social and economic life of the country.

Rising from its 4th quarterly Standing Committee meeting in Yola, Adamawa State, weekend, the Guild in a communique signed by the president, Funke Egbemode, and secretary, Victoria Ibanga, said the new dimension was portraying the country negatively in the eye of the global community, with the potential of scaring away foreign investors, at a time their contribution was crucial to revamp the country’s ailing economy.

The Guild noted that attracting foreign, direct investment was a critical factor in reflating the nation’s sagging economy, pointing out that this would be gravely frustrated by the rising tide of kidnapping, as no investor would stake his or her investment in an insecure environment.


While citing the abduction of the wife of governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Margaret Emefiele; former Minister, Bagudu Hirse; a senior official of the NNPC, Reverend Father John Adeyi; some students and teachers in Lagos State; a female journalist working in Benue State, Iyuadoo Tor-Agbidye, among others, the Guild noted that kidnapping had, unfortunately, become almost a daily occurrence. Consequently, the Guild urged the Federal Government to urgently rejig its security apparatchik and develop a pro-active security strategy that would checkmate the menace.

“It is equally desirable for the government to urgently evolve anti-kidnapping measures and legislation, in order to combat the current wave of crimes and criminality in Nigeria. The Guild commended the initiatives of some state governments in setting up special squads with proven records of trailing, tracking and arresting kidnappers and urged other states to take a cue from the success stories.

It also recommended the strengthening of the justice system to engender speedy prosecution of kidnap suspects to serve as a deterrent to other criminally-minded persons. Similarly, the Guild urged security agencies to be alive to their responsibility of providing adequate security to the citizens by weeding out from among them the bad elements who had the propensity to aid and abet criminals. It said: “At this present time, it will serve the government well to do the needful in arresting the rising wave of crimes and criminality, so as to ease the current pressures on the citizens and put the nation back on the path of peace.

‘’Lastly, the Guild appreciates the government and good people of Adamawa State for hosting its fourth quarterly meeting,’’ the NGE stated.

Graphic photos: Commercial bus driver allegedly killed by trigger-happy police officer in Kaduna

A commercial bus driver identified as Saminu Bara'u popularly known as Danlami was allegedly killed by a trigger-happy police officer in Maraban Jos, Kaduna State on Tuesday November 15th. Facebook user who shared the story, calling for justice, wrote;

"The incidence occurred around 8pm of Tuesday 15th November 2016 while the victim was seated outside his residence in Maraban Jos when a team of police stormed the area in the name of patrol. Having fractured his leg and being innocent, Danlami remain seated as the police arrived.
One Police Officer nicknamed KURA (literarilly mean Hyena) ordered Danlami to stand up and run before he shoots him, which he calmly replied that he cannot run because his leg is fractured displaying his crutches. Unfortunately for Danlami, the barbaric KURA shot him to dead (the pic). Immediately after he shot Danlami, angry youths descended on KURA and were about to take jungle justice on him. It took the intervention of some respected elders and a human right activist (name with-held) to rescue him. The case has since been filed at Unguwan Sunusi Police Station and we learnt that KURA was transferred to State CID. Our fear is the usual, we don't want the case dead at arrival just because a Police Officer involved. Let us stand up for justice! Let us think of his wife and 3 kids! The State Government should do something!! The IGP should ensure KURA is brought to book!!! Keep sharing until justice is done. All we want is #Justice4Danlami......... May his soul rest in peace.

Sigurdur Hjartarson, a former teacher with 37 years experience from Iceland is the proud founder and owner of the world's largest penis collection. He set up the Phallological Museum because he felt that 'Somebody had to do it.'

His ballsy exhibition has 282 penises of different shapes and sizes, from 93 different species of animal across the globe.


Sizes vary from a huge sperm whale's 1.7-metre phallus - the largest exhibited - to the tiny penis bone of a hamster. Among the genitals on display are those of a polar bear, dolphins, a walrus, fish, an elephant and a man. Visitors can also look at a range of genital-themed artefacts. Hjartarson's bizarre fascination began as a child in 1974 when he was given a bull's penis to use as a whip on animals and he opened his museum in 1997 with 62 specimens.

He told AFP: "Some of my teachers used to work in summer in a nearby whaling station and after the first specimen they started bringing me whale penises, supposedly to tease me.
"Then the idea came up gradually that it might be interesting collecting specimens from more mammalian species."

 The fascination for all things penis has even become a family business. Hjortur Sigurdsson, the founder’s son took over in 2011 and set about modernising the museum.

 "It all started as a joke. My father had fun just collecting, doing something no one has done before. He always said 'somebody had to do it." He told AFP

Visitors can pick up souvenirs like "Designer condoms" and woollen "willy warmers", knitted to resemble a snake and an elephant's trunk.

60% of Boko Haram members are not Nigerians- Chief of Army Staff says

Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant-General Tukur Buratai, yesterday said judging by the current activities of the Boko Haram terrorists, it has been proven that 60 per cent of the insurgents are not Nigerians. Buratai said this when he received the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General, Dr Mohammed Ibn Chambas, at the headquarters of the Theatre Command of Operation Lafiya Dole, at the Maimalari Cantonment in Maiduguri, Borno state.

“Your Excellency, I want to bring to your attention that while the Boko Haram (insurgency) can be said to have started in Nigeria, by and large, as at today, I can say that almost 60 per cent of the insurgents are from our neighbouring countries. You can see that almost all of the recently surrendered insurgents are not Nigerians. This is a challenge that impacts more on the Nigerian side than the other countries. But by and large, our military is up to the task and we will continue to do our best to ensure that our country is secured”he said
