If the Kansas City Royals continue their World Series winning streak against the New York Mets, they may have a mother-daughter good luck charm to thank.
Elizabeth Spicher of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, gave birth to daughter Mariah Tuesday, the same day the Royals won the opening game of the 2015 World Series against the Mets.
Thirty years ago, in 1985,
Spicher herself was born during a World Series game. The Royals went on
to win the World Series championship that year, the last year in which
they won the title.
“I was born Oct. 21, 1985, and it
was in between the second and third game of the World Series,” Spicher
told ABC affiliate KMBC-TV Kansas City, Missouri. “So we’re hoping that
she’s our good luck charm and that, you know, we’ll win this year.”
Spicher’s mom, Mary Brown,
recalled having to scream for the nurses’ attention while she was in
labor with Spicher because of all the attention on the Royals.
“Nobody answered so I sat back in
the bed and I screamed as loud as I could, ‘My water broke,’” Brown
told KMBC. “It was funny because they did come running in. They were so
fixed on the game they’d forgotten that I’d already had my baby.”
The Royals are ahead of the Mets
by two games. The two teams will face off again in game three of the
seven-game series Friday night in New York.
“Absolutely,” Spicher said when
asked whether she hopes Mariah will help the hometown team take the
crown. “We went to game seven in ’85 so, hopefully, we only go to game
four
